Black Rain: It's All Over But The Crying

Black Rain is dead.

She was stolen from the house sometime after 9 p.m. on April 28 and and recovered by HPD sometime before 7 a.m. the next morning. She was found stripped and left by the side of the road in Waipahu. She will be sorely missed. Possibly more amazing than the fact that she was stolen, stripped, dumped, called in, and recovered within 10 hours is the fact that she actually made the drive out to Waipahu.

Black Rain was not without her problems. Overheating was one of them. Just two months prior the radiator needed to be replaced and the cooling system flushed with block sealant--the head gasket was cracked. And, of course, there's time when Black Rain was pulled over for a cracked tailpipe in Waikiki and Mars had to ask the police officer what a "Reconstruction Permit" is.

Most probably assembled in East Liberty, Ohio, Black Rain was 15 years old. We first met her in 1996 with the help of a ride from J. Walsh and summer clerkship money from a Hawaii law firm. We spent nearly three years together.

We are consoled only by the fact that Black Rain, in her short time with us, touched so many. Hurricane, G. Lee, B. Brower, J. Walsh, M. Moriarty, Juan Blanco, and at least a few more were helped with rides to and from school.

An Irish wake has been planned. It will take place over Black Rain's license plate at Bar 35. The date will be determined by whenever all the people who used to bum rides on the regular can make it. Juan Blanco will give the eulogy. It is requested that donations be made to Triple-A or SHOPO, in lieu of flowers.

Side note: I didn't realize they charged you to tow your stolen car, although it makes sense.

Here are a few pictures of the damage:

Visiting this weekend was not the same without Black Rain. Let me know when the wake is; I'll bring my best suit.
