Preamble.

These rules are adopted in order to create a more civil and satisfying courtship experience for everyone involved in the endeavor. Following these rules does not guaranty a suitor's obtaining the objects of desire. Rather, following them will assist a suitor in showcasing the best of his or her qualities in a graceful manner.

The editor would like to thank the many wise, insightful, and experienced people who have shared stories of courting success and disaster. Without these lessons, these rules could not exist.
