Zucchini flowers

The zucchini plants that we planted in the garden don't seem like they are producing squash, but they are producing lots of blossoms. Zucchini flowers are the most prized squash blossoms. Yesterday we fried up about 30 or so of the blossoms after dipping them in beer batter. They were delicious.

Today there are about another 10 blossoms ready to eat, so I will get to try a new recipe. The blossoms can be sauteed in butter. I plan on eating them over a bed of pasta. mmm.

We suspect that all of the plants are male, but that seems likely since there are at least 10 plants all from ten different seeds. At this time we have no other explanation. From my experience in eradicating the invasive plant Ivy Gourd on Maui I know how to identify male and female flowers on a gourd plant. None of the zucchini flowers have an ovary behind the flower. Very unusual. File under the X files, or Z files, as it were.
